Here is the news from Adrianna
Sgarlata, Director of Bully Police-Virginia, about today's signing (4/5/05)
of the Virginia Anti Bullying Law.
Adrianna was bullied when
she was a student in school but she has overcome the peer-abuse and is
now using it for a positive influence wherever she goes. Adrianna
will be competing in the Miss Virginia Pageant this summer.
Hey friends - just a quick note to share the exciting news with you:
Thought I would share a couple of pictures from the Bill signing
with Governor Warner in Richmond today. There were also
to TV crews there, one from Roanoke, and one from Charlottesville???, and
a radio reporter as well. The Governor's official photographer will
be sending photos soon, but here are some of the photos we amateurs took
while at the signing!
As you may know, I was instrumental in the drafting, lobbying,
and passage of this bill, which protects the children of Virginia from
bullying.
Since October I have worked in tandem with Delegate Rob Bell
(standing with Adrianna above, lower, right), of the Virginia Legislature;
and the facts, figures, research and proposed language I presented him
were the catalyst for creating two anti-bullying bills, HB 2226 and HB
2267. I lobbied extensively in Richmond in support of both bills
and testified during the committee hearings.
I'm pleased to report that these bills have now been passed and
were signed today by Governor Warner, April 5, 2005.
I am so excited and grateful to have been able to help get this legislation
passed to help protect the children of Virginia.
